Loblaw continues to expand its discount banner No Frills across Canada with its latest opening in Gambo, Newfoundland and Labrador. The new location marks the 12th No Frills in Atlantic Canada. Loblaw operates more than 280 No Frills across the country.

Loblaw has been focused on expanding its hard discount business, including new smaller footprint urban locations. Last November, Galen Weston, Loblaw chair of the board of directors noted that No Frills and Quebec discount banner Maxi lead growth for the company with double digit sales.

In 2023 alone, Loblaw opened 23 discount stores and Weston said the company will convert more than 30 stores to discount and open 40 new locations across the country in 2024.

In February 2024, Loblaw committed to a capital investment of more than $2 billion into the economy in 2024 alone.

Per Bank, Loblaw Companies president and CEO stated in February said “this year, we are investing where Canadians need it most. We will introduce more than 40 new discount stores and 140 new pharmacy care clinics in communities nationwide — making healthcare and affordable food more accessible to more people. These investments in Canada are a catalyst for job growth and the creation of countless opportunities in our stores, our company and the many partners who work with us.”
