Amazon to offer U.S. Prime members free grocery delivery

Amazon says it is going to make its grocery delivery service free for Prime members in more than 20 major U.S. metropolitan markets. The change does away with a monthly US$14.99 fee for shoppers on the Amazon Fresh online grocery service.

The company plans to integrate all orders for groceries into a single portal which will offer one-hour and two-hour delivery windows and will include grocery delivery from services like Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market, according to Reuters.

“I think that this is going to be a game changer, and it will grow into one of the most loved benefits of Prime,” said Stephenie Landry, vice president of grocery delivery.

Users of the free grocery delivery service would still have an option to shop groceries via other portals such as Prime Now, Amazon says.

Amazon spokesperson Andrew Gouveia told Grocery Business that free grocery delivery is available through Prime Now in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, but he declined to comment on whether there were plans to bring it to Canada.
